There are not very many good choices when Excel 5/7 workbooks become corrupted and will no longer open. Microsoft suggests a solution in knowledge base article Q147216 which may allow you to recover your data, but it won't recover any charts, formulas or macros that you might have had. Go to your excel\xlstart directory and delete the two files called msexcel4.xlm and msexcel5.xls if you find them there. These were installed by WinFax Pro for use with earlier versions of Excel, but they cause the problem that you have just experienced with Excel 7.
