Baarns Developer JumpStart for Excel 97

The BDJS is a subset of the methodology used by Baarns Consulting to create custom VBA solutions for major corporations. We are in the process of upgrading our methodology to Excel 97 VBA. This is the final release of the DJS for Excel 97. Please address any comments you have on the DJS to RobBovey@baarns.com.

The DJS is designed as a framework around which you can quickly build an application. The purpose of the framework is to provide pre-built, generic routines for handling many common programming issues. This saves you a significant amount of time that would otherwise be spent writing this code for each application. Some of the generic functionality you'll find in the DJS includes:

  • Workbook Handling - Procedures for opening, closing, saving, printing and mailing workbooks
  • Workspace Handling - Procedures for saving and restoring the initial workspace, as well as creating and implementing custom workspace settings
  • CommandBar Building - Provides a table-driven methodology for building a wide array of custom CommandBars for your application
  • Registry Manipulation - Procedures for reading and writing registry entries and creating deleting and enumerating registry keys
  • Event Handling - Provides a framework for trapping and handling in one place, Application-level, Workbook-level and Worksheet-level events for all objects in your application

New in DJS Final Version

The most commonly used functions in the DJS are the workspace and command bar building functions. In the final version of the DJS, the workspace and command bars functions have been modified so that they can be easily removed and used in projects where only that specific functionality is required. See the documentation for details.

The Baarns Developer JumpStart was developed by Rob Bovey and Don Baarns. We do not know everything about Excel (like everyone else, we are constant students of this business!), but we have over 20 years of combined Excel and system development experience. Our custom code runs on hundreds of thousands of desktops daily.
