Microsoft Forms

A new unified forms engine has replaced the form capability that each of the applications had implemented in the past. This forms engine provides the forms and controls for creating custom dialogs in Excel97, Word97 and PowerPoint97. Access97 retains the forms engine it has used in the past. Forms3 supports the architecture for the next generation of ActiveX controls. Forms3 provides the following benefits:

  • Superior performance when compared to today's controls.
  • Controls which support data binding
  • Controls which support printing and zooming. This feature becomes very important when control are embedded in documents.
  • Advanced features for forms design, including alignment, spacing and layout of controls, drag and drop of controls and in place editing of caption.
  • Delivers a broad set of controls, including all the standard interface controls as well as container controls such as frame and multipage controls.
  • Configurable toolbox with multiple tabs for organization of controls into groups. The toolbox can be customized by creating new pages, moving or copying controls from page to page, editing bitmaps and changing tooltip text. Dragging a control, or any number of grouped controls, from the form back to the toolbox creates a template of that control, which can be re-used. This is great for implementing a standard look and feel for an application.
