Automatic Style Definition

While styles are powerful and offer many benefits, Microsoft watched users working and found that they just did not have the time to create styles. So they now have a scheme that offers you all the benefits of styles without making you do any work. When Word sees you applying new formatting to your text, it automatically creates a style for you so you can easily reuse that formatting later. For example, if you type in a one line paragraph at the top of your document, center it and apply some formatting to it such as bold or italics, Word presumes you are creating a title and automatically creates a new Title style for you. Of course, Word does this not just for titles and heading, but for most of your document content such as body text and lists.

Automatic Style Updating

Word lets you seamlessly propagate changes to a style across your entire document. There is a new checkbox to let you automatically update your styles. Checking this option means that the next time you make some direct formatting changes to a style such as a heading, Word automatically updates the style for you, and replicates your direct formatting to every place where that style appeared in your document. You only make your changes once in one place, and Word does the rest of the work for you.
