Word 97—Ease of Use

Proofreading

Grammar Check

Word 95’s Spell-It automatically checks your document for spelling errors as you type and marks the mistakes right in your document. This feature is a big hit with users for a couple of reasons: 1) it eliminates the time consuming process of checking a document for errors after it has been completed, 2) since Word is checking for errors in the background, when you do run the checker, Word already knows the errors and can jump from one incorrect word to another, dramatically speeding the process. Word 97 has extended this intuitive and efficient model to the rest of the proofing activity - grammar checking. Now, in addition to checking for spelling errors, Word checks for grammar errors while idle and marks possible errors directly in the document. And just like Spell-It, Grammar Check gives you instant sentence rewrites in-place when you right-click on the marked text.
