Word 97—Online

WordMail Improvements

WordMail was pioneered in Word 95 to enable you to use Word, the tool you are already familiar with, to create and distribute information easily. Word integrates seamlessly with Exchange and Outlook to become your standard electronic mail editor. This means that all the formatting, toolbar access and automatic features that make Word a great text editor can be used for more effective and expressive communication in e-mail. In addition to Word’s inherent benefits as your email editor, we have made additional email specific enhancements.

Automatic Creation of Hyperlinks

WordMail scans your messages for text patterns that match Internet addresses (URL’s such as www.microsoft.com), network addresses (UNC’s such as \\server1\sharename) and email addresses such as username@corporation.com and automatically converts them to live hyperlinks. Visually, the text is stylized to match our hyperlink style, and when you mouse over the hyperlink, the cursor changes to a hand. You just need to click on the hyperlink to get to the location!

Message Authors in Document Map

To make finding specific information in long messages easier, Word has integrated message headers into the document map. Word automatically detects if a message contains a long conversation thread and displays the document map listing the author of each part of the thread. Now, if you want to go directly to comments from Bob which are buried at the bottom of the message, you click on Bob’s name in the document map and immediately get to his comments, without having to scroll or page down through the entire message.

Navigate through long, multi-threaded messages easily by clicking on a message sender’s name in the Document Map
