Revision Marking Enhancements

Word 2.0 introduced revision marking to support online review and tracking of changes. Revision marking lets the document owner lock a file when distributing a document so revisions can be tracked. It uniquely identifies each reviewer’s revisions, and then lets the owner accept, reject, or merge revisions. Changes are displayed graphically, so other user’s know what’s changed since the previous version. In Word 97, we’ve made further enhancements to our revision marking scheme, making it easier to read revised text. We have also added revision marking screentips - hovering over a revision tells you the date, time, and type of revision made. Specific enhancements include:

• See your edits on a per-word instead of per-character basis -

  Old way: Tiom. New way: Tim Tom

• List/paragraph numbering revision marked
• Indicate deletions with special characters such as ^ or #
• Formatting changes such as bold, italics revision marked
• Fields no longer get automatically revision marked
• Page Numbers don’t get revision marked

New revision marks make it easier to read text changes and screentips show who changed what and when
