Word 97 supports the Open Document Management (ODMA) API, which allows Word to open directly from and save to third party document management systems.
Master documents have been reimplemented to give you significant performance gains and to make navigating between subdocuments seamless. We use our hyperlink and web navigation model to implement master document. Each subdocument appears as a hyperlink making it easy for you to find and get to specific documents easily. Master documents open with all subdocuments collapsed and closed, speeding up file operations and navigation.
Word 97 supports 40-bit RC4 encryption of password-protected documents, which is the strongest exportable encryption.
