The project explorer displays the project components (i.e., forms, modules, references) associated with each currently open project using a tree view or a list view. Each project will appear as a new root in the tree control. This allows easy switching between different documents projects for programmers who work on multiple projects simultaneously. By expanding all roots on the tree control, a combined tree view of all open projects can be obtained. A project can exist for each open document and template.
The following project components are shown in the tree view:
The project explorer has a toolbar with the View Object and View Code buttons. For all forms and modules, these buttons work identical to the View Form and View Code buttons in VB 4.0. However, when a document is selected in the project explorer and View Object is clicked, the host applications window is activated with the document on top. The application and/or document windows are restored if they were minimized.
The Visual Basic editor has a new object browser. The browser differentiates between built-in properties, custom properties, methods, event handlers and user defined procedures. It indicates which members that are globally accessible and which are not. The browser shows function return types, parameter names and types, and user defined types and constants. The window state of the object browser is modeless, to let you continue editing when the browser is still up. The browser also supports linking, allowing you to navigate the object hierarchy easily.
