Forms Design

UserForms provide the forms and controls for creating custom dialogs in Excel 97, Word 97, and PowerPoint 97.

UserForms have developed the architecture for the next generation of ActiveX controls:

• Most of these controls are windowless (i.e., they do not use a Windows window)
• They have superior performance (e.g., time to save, load, redraw, etc.) when compared to today’s windowed controls.
• UserForms provide controls that support data binding.
• The controls support printing and zooming.
• Includes advanced features for Forms Design, including alignment and layout tools, drag and drop of controls and in-place editing of captions.
• UserForms deliver a broad set of controls, including all the standard interface controls as well as container controls such as frame and multipage controls. The UserForms toolbox is shown in the figure below.

UserForms Toolbox

The UserForms toolbar can be customized to display all registered controls in the system. You can fully customize the UserForms toolbox by creating new pages, moving or copying controls from page to page, editing bitmaps, and changing tooltip text. Dragging a control from the form back to the toolbox creates a template of that control, which can be re-used.
